** Status update: resolved **
Recently, printing jobs via the UG print portal might take longer than you are used to. Apologies for the inconvenience you have experienced. We are doing our utmost to solve the problem as soon as possible.
What is the cause of the problem?
Uploading large quantities of Office files in the UG print portal causes long waiting times. To print an Office file (Word, Excel, etc), it must first be converted by the system to a printable file. This conversion takes extra processing time, and so it takes a long time with large numbers of print jobs with Office files.
As a result, a print job is queued and cannot yet be printed. This makes it seem that something has gone wrong. It hasn't. If you try to upload the file again, this causes even longer queues. The waiting time can reach many hours.
What can you do to fix this problem?
1. Upload/send your job only once
Multiple uploads cause extra long queues.
2. Upload a pdf instead of an Office file
Pdf files have no extra processing time.
3. Print with the RUG Printer (recommended for employees)
This printerdriver is installed on all standard UG workstations and processes jobs faster than the UG print portal. Employees therefore print best with the RUG Printer from their workstations.
Tip: Are you a student and need to print something quickly?
Then print on a UG workstation in the University Library or one of the other student computer rooms.
Still experiencing problems with printing?
Please report it to the CIT Service Desk.
Thank you for your cooperation.
